Lastraum is a developer most known for creating ‘Lastraum’s Last Slice’, a collective focused on creating content for Decentraland composed mostly of 3d modellers, animators, programmers, voice actors, marketing professionals, social influencers… He is also part of the Decentraland Foundation in the area of Community and Event side.

Beginnings

In 2018, Lastraum was fascinated with the movie ‘Ready Player One’ when he found out about Decentraland on the internet. Impressed by the project, Lastraum started to learn about the platform until he realized that the Initial Land offering had already happened.

Sometime after his first touch, Lastraum decided to go back to join the closed beta of Decentraland in 2019. One of his first moves was getting involved in flipping land with Matty (DCLBlogger) where he was able to make some money. These moves correlate with a time when nobody knew what you could do with the land and the SDK wasn’t enough powerful.

Around that time, Lastraum heard the offer from a user called ‘PeterD’ who was offering a one-year lease for free so people could deploy stuff on his land. Eventually, PeterD gave Lastraum build rights and he started to deploy.

The first project of Lastraum consisted of positioning a 3D model of a billboard he downloaded from the defunct-service Google Poly with the video Big Buck Bunny (which is the first project of the Blender Institute) playing on it.

In October 2019, Lastraum presented with KJWalker, LyricalPolymath and Mr Difool a game for the Decentraland Game Jam called ‘Leveler’. The game didn’t win the competition but still received an honourable mention from the Decentraland Team.

From February 2020 to April 2020, Lastraum started to collaborate with the MetaZone team. He forked Carl Farvel’s Builder Hub for Decentraland and modified and enhanced that version to be integrated into the MetaZone ecosystem.

In April 2020, Lastraum told the MetaZone team that he would focus less of his free time on developing within Decentraland because the platform wasn’t enough active and he wouldn’t be coding for 50 users a day.

In October 2020, Decentraland starts increasing its activity and Lastraum decides to return back to start one of the most iconic projects of the platform: Lastraum’s Pizza Kiosk.

Lastraum’s Pizza Kiosk

Lastraum says that he has always been curious about integrating the digital world with the physical one. His inspiration came from the movie ‘Ready Player One’ when the main character virtually shops for a suit and then receives it in real life.

This idea of connecting the virtual world with the physical one plus the fact that Bitcoin is related to pizza (because of being the first physical item bought with crypto) gave rise to the first Pizza Kiosk in the metaverse.

The project consisted of a 3D virtual kiosk which let users order a pizza using crypto thanks to Domino’s API. The system requested your address and it would find a Domino’s nearby and order a pizza to then deliver it to you.

The Pizza Kiosk was officially launched at a Decentraland Event on March 2021. Only three persons were able to use the machine: Scientist (who paid Lastraum to become the first person), Mease and Lastraum.

Time after, the project got shut down because in Lastraum’s words: ” (…) it’s a full-time job with the support and updates and upkeep.” However, he claims that he wants to get it back up.

Last Slice Collective

In April 2020, Lastraum created the Last Slice Collective: an educational project to help onboard more content creators into the Decentraland SDK, but also a challenge for himself to create an NFT and a token gate for Discord. One of the members, Nicole Nixon, created an image of a pizza box which then turned into an NFT that lets people be part of the community and access different benefits (such as lessons, resources or even paid work).

By the fall of 2021, Last Slice was getting inbound requests from clients (such as Samsung) to look at building experiences for their clients.
