KevinOnEarth is a Berklee College of Music Alumni, Artist, Decentraland content creator and the CEO of a healthcare company called ‘Point Motion’ (https://www.pointmotion.us/). In addition to his work in digital health, his creative agency “ImagineOnEarth” (https://www.ImagineOnEarth.com) is also known for creating The Decentraland Report: a decentralized news network that combines different streamers who report the latest news about Decentraland.
The beginnings
Kevin started in Decentraland by investing in MANA in 2017. He would not be part of the community until the end of 2020 when the MANA he bought was enough to purchase a plot of land.
The first steps of Kevin were in November 2020 by creating an art gallery inside Decentraland to display his NFTs. He tried to show the gallery to his friends but none of them knew what he was talking about. For that reason, on January 28 2021, Kevin started to do live streams on his Twitch channel so people could watch him exploring Decentraland and talking about what was going on. Kevin named that content ‘The Decentraland Report’ and started to send the videos (from his ended streams) to his friends.
9 on Earth badge
On February 2021, Kevin released the 9 on Earth badge through OpenSea “(…) which was awarded to the first 9 subscribers to the original Decentraland Report channel”.
Collaborations with MetaKey
Time after the release of the 9 on Earth badges, Kevin started to collaborate with MetaKey. His collaborations were not only talking about the product but also doing onboarding sessions with their communities, covering their events and running their Shark Tank’s events.
At the same time he was collaborating with MetaKey, Kevin realized that he didn’t have time to edit the videos himself. That’s why he got a grant from the DAO in order to hide a video editor.
99 on Earth
On April 2021, Kevin released the 99 On Earth badge for its first 99 subscribers
Reporter recruitment and development of $REPORT
Between April and December of 2021, Kevin started to recruit and train people who wanted to become reporters for ‘The Decentraland Report’. In this sense, ‘The Decentraland Report’ would no longer be a way of Kevin naming his live streams but a whole project that included different streamers in order to create a ‘decentralized news historical preservation station’.
To achieve his ‘decentralized’ purpose, Kevin started to create a token (with the mentoring of TrustSwap) called $REPORT which would let people decide through a DAO things such as the acceptance of new reporters or the elimination of others (including himself).
Royalty Tokens
At the same time he was recruiting members for the Decentraland Report, Kevin also announced the Royalty Tokens on a tweet posted on May 24 of 2021.
Kevin shares the idea that musicians don’t get well rewarded in the music industry. For him, one of the main issues is intermediaries such as publishing companies. That’s why he believes that the NFT technology could automate royalty payments by following a trustless process where payments for streaming royalties (on platforms such as Spotify) can go instantly directly to the people who own what he denominated the ‘Royalty Tokens’.
In order to support his own idea, Kevin minted his own songs as ‘Royalty Tokens’ and then airdropped those tokens to the owners of the ‘on Earth badges’.
Although the technology is not currently available, Kevin has made the promise that when the NFT music streaming becomes mainstream, holders of the ‘Royalty Tokens’ of his music will earn a percentage of the royalty payments from streaming platforms.
999 on Earth
On November 30, Kevin announces with a tweet that he has reached 999 subscribers on Twitch. As a way of celebrating, Kevin scheduled a 24-hour live stream on December 11 that took place on his Twitch channel surpassing an average of one hundred viewers.
That same day, Kevin released the 999 OnEarth badge.
$REPORT airdrop and the DAO
On January 28 2022 (one year from the first Decentraland Report), Kevin launched the $REPORT token by airdropping it to people who held POAPs from his previous events or owned an ‘On Earth badge’. The amount of $REPORT each holder received depended on the NFT they got:
That same day, he also released the DAO for The Decentraland Report by creating a proposal called ‘Do you approve the Tokenomics 1.0 Document?’. People who held the $REPORT tokens were able to vote and, in a unanimous decision, the proposal was passed the next day.
Thanks to the DAO, $REPORT holders are able, for example, to decide who gets accepted/removed from The Decentraland Report and be part of the future of the project.
Collaborations with Xpand.gg
Throughout his career, Kevin has shown big interest in the social-gaming platform Xpand which lead him to collaborate with them multiple times. Here are some examples:
- ‘The Decentraland Report’ has a page at Xpand where subscriptions are sold and 50% goes distributed to the reporters and the other 50% goes to a treasury.
- On March 01 2022, Kevin made a proposal on the Decentraland DAO for $120K with the idea of developing a feature for Xpand to airdrop NFTs (including Decentraland Wearables) automatically with a panel. Before this initiative, every time Kevin wanted to send rewards to viewers from The Decentraland Report, he would need to copy address by address which turned into a really time-consuming task (and not scalable).
